Welch Causeway 16” and 24” Subaqueous Water Main Replacement

Replacement of over 4,000 LF of 16″ DIP water main including two (2) 1,000 LF subaqueous crossings for the 20″ and 30″ HDPE water main at Welch Causeway. Welch Causeway, SR 666, crosses the Inter-coastal waterway between the mainland of Pinellas County and the coastal community of Madeira Beach.  Replacement included conventional trench methods and Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) of the subaqueous crossings. Project was completed without any change orders and within budget.

Project responsibilities included construction plan preparation, Subsurface Utility Excavation (SUE) to locate existing utilities in the proposed alignment, permitting and preparation of Technical Specifications. Additional responsibilities included extensive coordination with FDOT for preparing and permitting the maintenance of traffic (MOT) plan on a state highway designated as an evacuation route for the beach communities along the barrier islands. Construction responsibilities included coordination with contractor, review pay requests, certification of the new water main and as-built drawing preparation.
